DWTS: Brenda Bites the Dust

Posted by Cynical Sarah on March 31, 2010

Shannen Doherty was the first one to go this season on Dancing with the Stars. It was proof positive of how big a popularity contest the show is.

There were plenty of people with lower scores after two nights of dancing, and based on scores Buzz Aldren and Kate Gosselin were shoe-ins for the bottom two. But the reality show gods were in Kate’s favor, and I’m guessing people just didn’t have the heart to not vote for Buzz. Instead Shannen and Pamela Anderson ended up in the bottom two.

Review: The Hurt Locker

Posted by Cynical Sarah on March 26, 2010

I’m finally starting to get around to watching some of the movies that were center stage at the Oscars. Might as well start with the big winner for the evening, best picture The Hurt Locker.

My initial feeling after the movie was over was that it was intense. Most movies will give you a break from the stress with a little humor break or just a break in the action. The Hurt Locker puts you on edge from the very first scene and the only break you get is at the end.

DWTS: Let the Dancing Begin Again!

Posted by Cynical Sarah on March 25, 2010

The first time I tuned in to Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) it was for work reasons. Shannon Elizabeth was on, and as a pseudo poker celebrity, I had to write about her stint on the show for the website I was working on at the time.

When the season was finally over, I breathed a sigh of relief at not ever having to watch again. Then the season came with Chuck Liddell. There’s no work excuse for wanting to watch him; I just like the UFC and wanted to see how he’d do. I watched the entire season even though he was booted near the middle.

If You Can’t Beet ‘Em …

Posted by Cynical Sarah on March 22, 2010

My husband loves beets – not likes, loves. He will stock up on cans of them when we come across them at the grocery store, and when the shelves seem to be devoid of canned beets, he’ll resort to the pickled kind in a jar.

Those are most convenient for him because he doesn’t have to do anything to cook them. I don’t like beets, so I don’t generally go out of my way to cook fresh beets for meals. Howeer, I have made the effort to try to find ways I’ll like them because he does love them so much.

Opportunism at Its Worst

Posted by Cynical Sarah on March 21, 2010

Sometimes there are just so many things going on in the world that fuel my cynicism that it’s hard to sort them out to write about them. There were a ton of stories out there this week that increased my lack of faith in humanity, but none more so than the Jesse James infidelity story.

My issue isn’t even about the actual cheating. Sad but true, infidelity isn’t all that shocking especially coming from the celebrity world. Was it right? No. Should Jesse James feel bad? Yes. Is it a horrible thing for a couple to have to go through? Most definitely.

But in a sad testament to my own cynicism, it’s hardly a blip on my radar. The part of this story that does set me off, however, is the timing of the story coming out. Or to clarify, the timing of Michelle McGee deciding to announce to the world that Jesse James cheated with her.

Cynicismless in Seattle

Posted by Cynical Sarah on March 12, 2010

Anyone who’s walked around in downtown Vancouver knows the city has it’s share of homeless and crazy people begging on corners and walking the streets. I think it has something to do with the mild temperatures making it ideal for people to be out all year round.

Most of the time, they’re pretty harmless. It’s sad to see them, some have obvious drug or alcohol issues, but they stick to they give their plea and then give a “have a nice day” in true Canadian fashion.
