Cat and Mouse Game
Posted by Cynical Sarah on March 13, 2006
My cat loves mice. Yes, normally I’d be talking about the little furry kind. This time I’m not.
She does have some furry mice toys that she hides all over the place and leaves pieces of in the couch, but the mouse she’s most fascinated with is the one attached to my computer. As if I haven’t had enough computer problems lately, she chewed through the cord to my mouse.
If this was the first time, I’d laugh it off and move on. Even if it was the second time, it wouldn’t bother me too much and I’d sheepishly go to the computer store again to replace it. This happens to be the third mouse she’s decided to sever the tail of. Not to mention the printer cord she chewed through too.
I’m starting to wonder if this is just her way of telling me I’m paying too much attention to my computer and not enough to her. Do you think cats actually think that way.
My husband thinks it’s funny that she gives me so much “attention.” She doesn’t bother his computer at all. She might have some sort of special cat sensor though that knows she’d be looking for a new home if she did.
She also has a habit of waking me up at night. She gets right in my face, poking her nose into mine and tickling me with her whiskers. Any sign of movement I make results in her meowing and wanting to be petted. If one of my hands is outside the covers, she’ll push her head under it to make me pet her too.
Again, it’s just me though. She’ll poke and paw at me all night and not once go to the other side of the bed to see if he’ll bother to give her some attention.
Either she’s figured out that it’s useless to try to enter his little blanket fortress to get to him, or she’s just decided I’m the easier sucker to target when she’s hungry or thirsty or just bored with sleeping for the night. No matter what the reason, I seem to be the target of all her wayward affection.
As much as I’d like to gloat and lord over my hubby the fact that this makes me the kitty’s favorite, a printer cord, 3 new mouses and many nights of interrupted sleep are not exactly the reward I’d like for the kitty liking me so much.
If she could show her affection by cleaning her own litter box and maybe not attacking my feet as often, I’d be much happier to be her favorite.
