Homeless Man Finds Blogging Niche

A homeless man known only as “Commercial Drive Dwayne” is finally earning a good living doing something besides panhandling. He got himself signed up on a blogging web site and is now earning hundreds of dollars a month.

Dwayne said his normal method of earning is to sit on a corner on Commercial Drive and ask for handouts. One day a stranger handed him a newspaper that had an article in it about the world of blogging.

“I obviously don’t have a computer of my own, but I’ve got a library card still and I use the computer there,” Dwayne said. “I found this site that said I could earn money with blogging and I gave it a try.”

Dwayne writes almost daily about his adventures on the streets. He talks about the different kinds of people he sees, the donations he gets and even about his daily travels if he has to leave his corner.

The site quickly gained in popularity and now averages 1,000 hits per day. Dwayne makes money off the ads on his blog.

“I had no idea what an ‘affiliate’ was but the blog site had easy directions on how to sign up with Adsense to get ads,” Dwayne said. “At first I wasn’t making much from it, just a few cents here and there, until the traffic really picked up.”

Now Dwayne has offers from other companies who’d like to advertise on his site too.

“I’m not much for business though. This way is easiest for me and keeps me in supply of wetnaps and beer,” Dwayne said.
