On the Verge of Olympic History
Posted by Cynical Sarah on February 27, 2010
With a gold medal in men’s curling, Canada sits with 13 gold medals for the 2010 Winter Olympics. That’s the most of all the participating countries this year and a tie for the Olympic Record for golds in one year.
As if the hockey team needed more pressure going into the gold-medal game on Sunday – they could be the gold medal that gives Canada the Olympic record.
Canada stands third overall in the medal count, and I don’t think mathematically they can move up any further to the top. But the “Own the Podium” slogan seems to be working for at least a third of that podium.
The 13 Gold medalists so far are:
- Jasey-Jay Anderson: Men’s Parallel Giant Slalom
- Denny Morrison, Lucas Makowsky, Mathieu Giroux: Men’s Team Pursuit Speed Skating
- Men’s 5000m Relay Short Track Speed Skating
- Charles Hamelin: Men’s 500m Short Track Speed Skating
- Women’s Ice Hockey
- Heather Moyse, Kaillie Humphries: Women’s Bobsleigh
- Ashleigh McIvor: Ladies’ Ski Cross Freestyle Skiing
- Tessa Virtue, Scott Moir: Ice Dancing
- Jon Montgomery: Skeleton
- Christine Nesbitt: Ladies’ 1000m Speed Skating
- Maelle Ricker: Ladies’ Snowboard Cross
- Alexandre Bilodeau: Men’s Moguls Freestyle Skiing
