5k Runner in the House!

Posted by Cynical Sarah on June 2, 2010

More than a month ago I signed myself and my husband up to do a 5k run. My plan was that if I signed up to do it, and paid money for it, then I’d have to stick to a plan for the next seven or eight weeks to get ready for it.

On Sunday, May 30, that plan came to fruition as I ran the PMC-Sierra Science Fair Fun Run. Best $35 I’ve ever donated to a cause since the result was that I actually stuck to a workout plan and met my goal of jogging the whole darn 5k. I won’t say yet that I’m a “runner” since I’m not sure there’s a big difference in speed between my power walking and my version of a jog.

What Runner’s High?

Posted by Cynical Sarah on May 19, 2010

This week I started Week 7 of the Couch to 5k training program. Before you start applauding too loudly, I have to be honest and say that I started on Week 2, so really I’ve only been doing this for six weeks.

I did that because I was already incorporating some jogging into my speed walking during the week, so I figured I could skip ahead a bit. This decision was made with full knowledge of all the warnings and advice on all the sites that you should start on Week 1 no matter what you think your own running fitness level is unless you’re already a runner and then you wouldn’t be doing this program anyway.

A Milestone Birthday with a Side of Cholesterol

My Mom turned 50 this year (sorry for the big reveal Mom), but perhaps more shocking than her turning 50 is that fact that she also becomes the mother of a 30-year-old this year.
It doesn’t bother me to be 30 this year. I don’t feel old by any means, and I’m probably way more active [...]

Cursed Tongue: I’d Like to Buy the World a Pure Cane Sugar Coke

Posted by CursedTongue on September 24, 2007

Recently I was tempted to buy a 24 pack of Coca-Cola Classics for nearly $18. That’s 75 cents per drink. That’s about twice the cost for a comparable amount of regular Coca-Cola. What was so special about these cokes? They were from Mexico. They contained that white gold: Pure Cane Sugar.

Cursed Tongue: Dying of Consumption

Posted by CursedTongue on July 1, 2007

Is China exporting substandard goods as a painful, lengthy form of low-level warfare? In the past six months the U.S. has received tainted dog food ingredients, tainted discount store toothpaste, Thomas the Tank Engine toys painted with lead paint, tires with inconveniently omitted gum strips securing the tread and culinary torches that leak butane. The laundry list continues, but I’m sure you have other things to do today.

Cursed Tongue: Gratuitous Fortification

Nothing says, “I’m an idiot,” like carrying a bottle of vitamin water.
