No TV During the Day Challenge: Day 2 & 3
Posted by Cynical Sarah on September 14, 2010
Day 2 of my TV challenge already brought the need for a clarification in the rules of the challenge. I completely neglected to factor in that the NFL regular season started Sunday.
How could I possibly stick to not watching TV during the day when the games start at 10 a.m. and run most of the day?
The clarification had to be that I can’t mindlessly watch TV during the day. If I’m actively participating in a show, like watching football to see how my fantasy football team players are doing, that’s acceptable. If I’m just watching TV to pass the time without really caring what I’m watching, that’s not acceptable.

Simon Night on American Idol
Posted by Cynical Sarah on May 27, 2010
The American Idol finale was the background soundtrack while I was studying last night. I haven’t watched the show all season, but I figured at least it would mostly be music while I crammed in more Project Management info before my test next week.
Sure, it was mostly music, but it was also mostly a big love fest and goodbye to Simon Cowell.

Review: Happy Town
Posted by Cynical Sarah on April 29, 2010
ABC has a new show that debuted this week – Happy Town. I was mildly intrigued by the previews I saw and curious to see what a TV show that Sam Neill has attached himself to would be like. (For those who don’t know, Sam Neill is the guy from Jurassic Park, and how a rugged palaeontologist was going to fit into a small town in Minnesota was beyond my imagination.)
I set the show to record on the DVR last night and fired it up this morning during the dead hour on TV when then only thing on the HD channels are Dr. Phil, Maury, Dr. Oz and things getting killed or autopsied for nature/learning shows. I guess the first good thing I can say about Happy Town is that it filled that hour of my life much better than the regular programming on TV would have.

DWTS – Sade Steals the Show
Posted by Cynical Sarah on April 15, 2010
We’re in Week 4 of Dancing With The Stars, and so far my favorite moment of the season doesn’t involve dancing. On the result show this week Sade performed twice and blew away any other performance – music or dancing – that I’ve seen through several seasons of viewing.
I was entranced with the performance of “Babyfather,” and reminded how much I’ve liked Sade’s work. Then when she came back for a second performance, she granted my silent wish that she’d do the always popular “Sweetest Taboo.” I will likely head out to buy Sade’s latest album, and I couldn’t even tell you who danced while she was performing.

Series Commitment Challenged
Posted by Cynical Sarah on March 5, 2010
I’m about to commit blasphemy in the eyes of many TV watchers that I know. I didn’t enjoy watching Heroes; in fact I didn’t even make it through the first season. Similarly, I really only make it though full seasons of 24 because Helper Troy enjoys the show (and because of Keifer Sutherland).
