10. He was the only white guy who could sport a ‘fro like that even after the seventies had long died.

9. Only a genius could turn painting into a show watched by millions. It may have been on PBS, but a lot of Americans know who the painting ‘fro guy is.

8. The man could do a complete landscape in an hour …

7. And he could do it while talking and teaching his adoring fans how to paint just as easily too.

6. He taught the general public that a pallet knife was like the art world’s multi-tool: it mixes, it scrapes, it adds highlights to trees!

5. What looks like a giant blobbed mistake on the canvas can turn into a bush or cabin or anything else in the land of Ross.

4. My uncle learned to paint by watching his shows, and now I have a lot of good, free art to hang at home.

3. No abstract art. No crazy colors. He made art that looked like something, not art that looked like a three year old made it at daycare.
