What Would Fergie Say?

(We asks celebrities the questions we’d all like to ask, and provides the answers we all wish we’d get to hear.)
Q. You’ve found great success with a solo album outside of the Black Eyed Peas. Do you plan to continue with a solo career as well as with the group?
A. Definitely. Since everyone has now discovered I’m Fergilicious, I can’t go back to just being one of the group. I will certainly continue with the Black Eyed Peas. We have a great thing going, but now I can also do my own special thing as well.
Q. Will your personal success change the group dynamic now?
A. I don’t think so. We’ve all got our own personal projects we work on outside the group. You’d be surprised the success everyone has had behind the scenes in the music world as well. We’ve all got our own little niche, and it just so happens that mine is as a solo artist as well as part of the group.
Q. Where do you get your inspiration for your songs?
A. Well, it comes from all sorts of sources really. I like to keep things playful and fun, so you may have noticed that my lyrics tend to be sort of on the silly side. I get inspiration from old children’s songs like “London Bridge is Falling Down,” or I get inspiration just from being silly.
Q. So for a song about your lady lumps?
A. Definitely inspired by childhood and children. I was sitting around talking with friends and somehow we got on the topic of different words and euphemisms for body part. It was one we came up with. It’s so easy when you come up with something fun and funny like that to come up with a song.
Q. You’re in a position to be a role model for young women, but there have been complaints that your music doesn’t really provide a good example for them. What is your response to that?
A. I never asked to be a role model. Just because someone might look up to me doesn’t mean they should. I wouldn’t say I’m a bad role model to follow, but my music style is about fun, not about teaching people. I can provide them with a good example of how to have fun, but I try to keep the rest of my life private, so I don’t expect other girls to look to me as an example to live by.
