WoW Group Found Battling in National Park

Park rangers were confused and concerned when they found a large group of people dressed in costume and battling in Yellowstone National Park. After rounding them all up, it was discovered that they were a group of gamers from World of Warcraft who got bored with the online version.

“I had no idea what we were facing when we started getting reports from campers,” said Ranger Rick Brigand. “Calls were coming in with sightings of strange creatures running around scaring the wildlife.”

Brigand said their first instinct was that someone was playing Bigfoot near the campsites in order to stir up some trouble, but when they went out to look, the “creatures” they found were even stranger. The first sighting the rangers had was of a large shaggy beast with horns.

“It looked like a huge, shaggy bull standing upright on its back hooves,” Brigand said. “At that point we were almost ready to call in the reinforcements, until we heard it speak.”

Rangers detained the “bull” and found out it was a man in a costume. He was dressed as a “Tauren” one of the races from the World of Warcraft game.

“He was the one that told us what was going on out there,” Brigand said. “Luckily they’re in a national park and didn’t have to worry too much about being shot. I can only imagine if there’d been a poacher out there somewhere though.”

There was a group of 25 people out in the woods playing their real-world version of the game.

“Some of them were pretty normal, just regular Humans. There were even some that were running around on their knees who, I guess, were supposed to be gnomes,” Brigand said.

The rangers were surprised by the detail of the costumes made up by the players.

“If he hadn’t spoken, that guy dressed as a Tauren looked incredibly real. Common sense tells me it couldn’t have been, but when you’re faced with a crazy looking beast in the wild, you just never know,” Brigand said.

They also found “Night Elves” who had on special glasses to make it look like they had glowing eyes, and dwarves that were in full metal battle gear and had the long beards.

“Some of the freakier ones were the Trolls and Orcs though. They had used body paint to make themselves blue and green,” Brigand said. “Plus those Orcs had weird fang things, kind of like a wild boar has, sticking up out of their bottom jaws.”

The rangers managed to round up the whole group and asked them to leave the park. They didn’t have the proper permits to be camping in non-designated camping sites, and weren’t obeying park rules.

The group had split into two camps and were playing a World of Warcraft version of capture the flag. For three days before they were caught by rangers, they’d camped and then battled four or five times during the day.

“With all their running around and battling each other, they were trampling and destroying lots of vegetation and disturbing the wildlife,” Brigand said. “They need to find a more appropriate battle site next time they want to take their game into the real world.

The man who organized the event said he plans to get the people back together again in the future.

“This was a lot of fun, and we all got to finally meet each other in person,” said Josh Green, an Undead Mage in World of Warcraft. “I’ll find us a better place where we won’t get in trouble next time.”
